Zest 2 – UPSL

San Diego Zest FC 2 will make its United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) debut starting with the 2017 Fall Season. Zest FC 2 will compete in the Pro Premier Division’s Western Conference. Zest FC 2 was created to develop an even stronger Zest FC team that competes in the Premier Development League (PDL). Most of all, the Zest FC strives to field the strongest possible teams for both Zest FC and Zest FC 2 in order to compete for the US Open Cup.

The San Diego Zest FC 2 was established to begin UPSL competition in the Fall of 2017. They are an an extension of their their parent team (San Diego Zest FC) of the USL PDL. Both Zest and Zest 2 were established under an international sports management company called San Diego Sports Authority, hereafter SDSA, located at San Diego, CA. The project was started in 2014 with aim of developing the local community soccer level and providing Japanese soccer players the path to pro in the U.S. On June 5th, 2017, the United Premier Soccer League announced that it had awarded the franchise to San Diego Zest FC 2.

The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) was formed in Los Angeles in 2011 with the goal of providing a competitive league platform for players seeking to play at higher levels. Today the league is the fastest-growing of its kind in the United States.

From an inaugural slate of 10 clubs in Southern California, the UPSL has grown to feature over 70 men’s teams in California, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Colorado. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining UPSL minimum standards.

The UPSL introduced the promotion/relegation model used in European soccer leagues for 2017 season. The Pro Premier Division and Championship Division constitute the two divisions for the UPSL. The Pro Premier Division represents the top-tiered division in UPSL. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards. UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league’s affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
