Do you have family in soccer or other sports who inspired you
“Watching my father play every weekend inspired me to join a club”.
Who is your favorite soccer player & why?
“My favorite player is Toni Kroos because I admire his passing and vision”.
Are there any teams nationally or internationally that you follow?
“I support and follow Real Madrid”.
Is soccer always what you wanted to do or did you consider any other sport?
“Soccer was the first sport I ever played and haven’t considered switching since”. Before being picked to play for the SD Zest and before playing for Southwestern College Rigoberto played at Hilltop High School (Chula Vista). While playing for the Lancers he was an integral part of a team that won league championships three times and was a CIF finalist twice. Rigoberto also earned All-League honors as a senior and was a honors graduate.
What’s your major in college?
“I decided to major in economics after I took an economics class as an elective and found it very interesting”.
What is your long term aspiration?
“I plan to eventually go into Investment Banking”.
What do you expect this season playing with the Zest this season?
“I hope to compete at a high level throughout the season and learn from my new teammates and coaches”. When Rigoberto played at Southwestern College he earned first-team All-State and first-team All-Conference honors helping lead his team to the conference championship in 2014.
Rigoberto lists the Dallas Cup as his most exciting experience in sports.
What advice can you give a young and aspiring soccer player?
“To never give up and continue to work hard and keep training”.
Have you played or would like to play any other position on the field?
“I have played nearly every position on the field except goalie but I find myself more comfortable as a center midfielder or winger” Rigoberto played in twelve games last season for Cal State University, Los Angeles. He tallied a total of 289 minutes for the Golden Eagles who finished the season with a 10-6-3 record in 2016.
How has your technique changed or improved?
“My technique has improved a bit over the last couple years but mainly my speed of play has improved because of the college speed of play”.Rigoberto is listed at 6-1 and 151 pounds which allows him to see the field well even when dealing with ball pressure from the opposing team.
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time?
“I enjoy watching Netflix and hanging out with my friends”.
