In an effort to help amateur soccer players get signed at the professional level, the PDL’s Ventura County Fusion will be holding their 10th annual pro combine on Saturday July 29th and Sunday July 30th at Ventura College. This annual professional combine allows athletes of various ages to demonstrate their skills in front of professional scouts and coaches through tactical and technical activities along with full-sided game situations. Among the most recent players who have earned professional contracts thanks to being part of this event are 23-year-old phenom Matt Hurlow-Paonessa who now plays for Phoenix Rising FC of the USL. Hurlow-Paonessa played in 2016 with San Diego Zest FC of the PDL and was one of the main reasons his squad at the time made it to the playoffs that year. He now plays alongside players like Didier Drogba and Omar Bravo due to the fact he was such a standout in last year’s professional combine along with the experience he got playing with the San Diego Zest. Former San Diego State Aztec and Ventura County Fusion star player Daniel Steres, who now plays for the LA Galaxy of the MLS, was also among the notable standouts from this event in 2012. VC Fusion’s pro combines has attracted scouts and coaches not only domestically but also from Mexico, Canada, Croatia, Sweden and other countries. Since the combine first started back in 2008 more than 100 players have been signed to professional contracts with 70 having been signed the last four times this event has been held. Many of these players, even those who were not offered contracts at the time, have been invited to participate in preseason training camps with professional clubs. Among the clubs who have already announced they will send representatives to scout players attending this year’s pro combine are: Portland Timbers (MLS), Sacramento Republic FC (USL), Orlando City SC (MLS), and San Jose Earquakes (MLS) with more expected to attend. As an added incentive, all PDL players will receive a 50% discount for attending. The combine will be held at Ventura College located at 4667 telegraph Rd, Ventura, CA 93003.

The schedule for both days is as follows:

Saturday, July 29th players check in at 9:30 am with combine going from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Sunday, July 30th players check in at 9:00 am with combine going from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
